Wheel Bearings

What are wheel bearings and what do they do?

Wheel bearings are small steel balls or rollers that sit inside the wheel hub which is what connects the wheel to the suspension system. They may be small, but they have a big job bearing the weight of the car and making sure that the wheels can rotate freely and that no excessive friction or wear is caused by the heavy load.

How to spot problems with wheel bearings.

Just as with any vehicle component, bearings are subject to wear and tear from constant use and the most obvious sign that there’s an issue with your wheel bearings will be a loud humming sound coming from the wheel. You may also experience some vibrations while driving or notice uneven tyre wear.

If you notice any of the signs above, book your vehicle into Howarth's Garage as soon as you can to prevent further damage and to remain safe on the roads. We have specialist Pichler wheel bearing removal equipment at our Mirfield workshop which means we can have your wheels sorted quickly, expertly and efficiently.

Howarth's Garage is a proud member of the Bosch Car Service network of quality independent workshops and we are fully committed to Bosch’s Service Promise which guarantees our customers expert, professional work with transparent pricing and unbeatable customer service.
